BF4 Summer Championship 2020 (PS4)

BF4 Summer Championship 2020 (PS4)

Information

In just a few weeks, ESB turns seven years old! To celebrate this occasion, we are throwing it back with a Battlefield 4 event.

Conquest (in various formats) has always been a big part of competitive Battlefield. Unfortunately, the lack of server options in Battlefield V has left one part of the community unsatisfied and has forced many players back to Battlefield 4.

Our Battlefield 4 Summer Championship 2020 will be a 12v12 Conquest Small event, exclusive to Playstation 4, that will require a minimum of 8 teams to launch.

The event features a 5 round Swiss Bracket, with the top 4 teams invited to a Single-Elimination bracket playoff.

You can find out more through the “Event Schedule & Sign-up” tab in this article.

Good luck to all participants! May the best team win!

ESB League – Announcing BFV Season 2

ESB League – Announcing BFV Season 2

Information

The Season 1 playoffs are taking place this weekend, but that doesn’t mean we can’t already announce Season 2!

We are excited to bring you a second Battlefield V season right away, with the hopes of proposing new formats in Season 3 this fall, once the Community Games update arrives in June.

Season 2 (like Season 1) will be open to all platforms and mainly for teams across Europe, North America, and South America. While we are aware not every platform/region combination we are proposing will have enough teams, we want to give everyone an equal opportunity to participate and hopefully have their very own league.

Visit the “League Schedule” tab to understand better the event format and “Qualifiers” to well, try and qualify!

Games Modes & Regions:

For Season 2 we will be featuring the following leagues on PS4, PC and XB1
  • 5v5 Squad Conquest
    • PC Europe
    • PC North America
    • PS4 Europe
    • PS4 North America
    • PS4 South America
    • XB1 Europe
    • XB1 North America
  • 8v8 Squad Conquest
    • PC North America & Europe
    • PS4 North America & Europe
    • PS4 South America
    • XB1 North America & Europe

Qualifiers:

There will be 2 Qualifiers for each Platform/Region/Game Mode combination that we will be offering. The Qualifiers have a One Day Cup, Swiss bracket format. This means that each team will have a predetermined number of matches to play regardless of how many they Win/Lose throughout each qualifier.

Each Qualifier you participate in will earn you points that count towards acquiring a spot in our league depending on how well your team does in each Qualifier. After both Qualifiers are over, the final rankings will be published, and the teams will earn their spot in a division of their respective Platform/Region. If enough teams compete in our Qualifiers, we will open extra Divisions where necessary. (Note: Division spots will be assigned based on each team’s final ranking. Ranks 1-8 will earn a spot in Division 1, 9-16 in Division 2, and 17-24 in Division 3.)

  • 1st100pts
  • 2nd75pts
  • 3rd50pts
  • 4th35pts
  • 5th-8th20pts
  • 9th-16th10pts

BFV Season 1 Invites:

As detailed in Section 1.13 of the ESB League rules, the top 5 teams from each Division 1, will be invited back to participate in Season 2, without having to go through qualifiers.

These teams will have until Monday, May 25th, to confirm their Season 2 participation with us and therefore maintaining their spot. After this date, those spots will be freed and opened up to teams playing in the qualifiers.

These invites currently apply to the following platform/region combinations:

  • PC – EU – 5v5
  • PS4 – EU – 5v5
  • XB1 – EU – 5v5
  • PS4- SA – 5v5

Please be aware that if all teams accept their invites for the above Divisions, note 2 written in “PC/PS4/XB1 Ranks”, would become: Ranks 1-3 will earn a spot in Division 1, 4-13 will earn a spot in Division 2, 14-23 will earn a spot in Division 3.

F.A.Q

F.A.Q – Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will I need to play all the qualifier events?
    • For Season 2, teams aren’t required to play both qualifiers. We do, however, recommend playing in both if your team wishes to qualify for Division 1.
  • Can we change the roster between qualifiers?
    • Rosters may be changed between each qualifier. However, a certain number of players must remain the same between both qualifiers. A reminder that players may only attempt to qualify with one team in each category (5v5/8v8) as per tournament rules.
      • For 5v5: 5 Players must remain the same between each qualifier
      • For 8v8: 8 Players must remain the same between each qualifier
  • What is the roster size for this event?
    • Roster sizes for qualifiers are listed on Battlefy, while roster sizes for the actual league are as follows:
      • 5v5: 10 Players
      • 8v8: 20 Players
  • When is the registration deadline?
    • The registration for each Qualifier closes 6 hours before each Qualifier starts as detailed in the “Schedule” tab on each event page on Battlefy.
  • Will the league be hosted on Battlefy?
  • How many divisions will there be? How many teams per Division?
    • There will be a maximum of 3 Divisions per category on each platform/region (5v5/8v8), each made up of 8 teams.
  • My platform/region/game mode combination didn’t reach 8 teams, what’s going to happen?
    • A minimum of 8 teams that finish each qualifier for each platform/region/game mode combination will be required for a division to launch.
      • If a platform/region/game mode doesn’t reach at least 8 teams in the first Qualifier weekend, it will be canceled due to a presumed lack of interest.
  • My team has players that are out-of-region for 5v5s, can they still play?
    • No, all our 5v5 events are heavily region locked. Teams found breaking this rule or trying to circumvent it will be disqualified immediately.
  • Is ESB League BFV Season 2 prized?
    • There are no prizes for Season 2, teams will, however, be able to earn a large amount of ESB Points by competing in this event.

ESB League – Announcing BFV Season 1

Information

Although it was planned for Fall 2019, Battlefield V Season 1 is finally here! After a successful Pre-Season event with 72 teams and an unfortunately long break waiting for community games to arrive, we’re ready to kick things off finally.

Season 1 will be open to all platforms and mainly for teams across Europe, North America, and South America. While we are aware not every platform/region combination will have enough teams, we want to give everyone an equal opportunity to participate and hopefully have their very own league.

Visit the “League Schedule” tab to better understand the event format and “Qualifiers” to well, try and qualify!

Games Modes & Regions:

For Season 1 we will be featuring the following leagues on PS4, PC and XB1

After both Qualifiers are over, the final rankings will be published, and the Top teams will earn their spot in a division of their respective Platform/Region. If enough teams competing in our Qualifiers, we will open extra Divisions where necessary. (Note: Division spots will be assigned based on each team’s final ranking. Ranks 1-8 will earn a spot in Division 1, 9-16 in Division 2, and 17-24 in Division 3.)

  • 5th-8th20pts

BFV Pre-Season Bonus Points:

We had previously mentioned that teams playing in our ESB League BFV Pre-Season event would receive a points bonus to qualify for Season 1 (for 8v8 Squad Conquest). Unfortunately, Season 1 was initially scheduled for Fall 2019 and because the event was delayed by over 4 months, we have decided to discard this bonus.

All teams will, therefore, be starting with 0 points heading into the qualifiers. Good luck!

F.A.Q

F.A.Q – Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will I need to play all the qualifier events?
    • For Season 1, teams aren’t required to play both qualifiers. We do, however, recommend playing in both if your team wishes to qualify for Division 1.
  • Can we change the roster between qualifiers?
    • Rosters may be changed between each qualifier. However, a certain number of players must remain the same between both qualifiers. A reminder that players may only attempt to qualify with one team in each category (5v5/8v8/16v16) as per tournament rules.
      • For 5v5: 5 Players must remain the same between each qualifier
      • For 8v8: 8 Players must remain the same between each qualifier
      • For 16v16: 16 Players must remain the same between each qualifier
  • What is the roster size for this event?
    • Roster sizes for qualifiers are listed on Battlefy, while roster sizes for the actual league are as follows:
      • 5v5: 10 Players
      • 8v8: 20 Players
      • 16v16: 45 Players
  • When is the registration deadline?
    • The registration for each Qualifier closes 6 hours before each Qualifier starts as detailed in the “Schedule” tab on each event page on Battlefy.
  • Will the league be hosted on Battlefy?
  • How many divisions will there be? How many teams per Division?
    • There will be a maximum of 3 Divisions per category on each platform (5v5/8v8/16v16), each made up of 8 teams.
  • Is ESB League BFV Season 1 prized?
    • There are no prizes for Season 1, teams will, however, be able to earn a large amount of ESB Points by competing in this event.
  • What kind of event is the ESB League relating to ESB Points?
    • Teams will gain ESB Points based on the division they play in for their respective 5v5 platform/region.

Weekly 5v5 One Day Cups

Weekly 5v5 One Day Cups

Information

Every Wednesday, starting with the 26th of February 2020, we will be hosting weekly Single-Elimination One Day Cups on 5v5 Squad Conquest. We want to provide new teams and players alike an accessible way to dive into competitive Battlefield V without having to commit to long schedules and formats. This will also be a great way for experienced teams to take a break from scrims and enjoy a few hours of matches against new and random opponents.

To kick things off, we will be focusing on European events for PC, PS4, and XB1, with more regions to follow in the future.

These events will also be a great way to start earning ESB Points both for teams that don’t feel like diving into ESB League yet and for teams that want to earn as many as possible!

Not sure what ESB Points are? Click HERE to find out more!

Schedule & Sign-ups

Note: Every One Day Cup is a Single-Elimination Bracket that starts and ends on the same day.

More dates will be added in the future.

ESB Points are back!

ESB Points are back!

What are ESB Points?

Teams will now be able to earn points again through all 5v5 ESB events they participate in and see how they rank among other teams throughout the year. The ESB Points system will aim to reward the top teams with exclusively prized events, team showcases, and more throughout the year.

The point system will be divided into different seasons, with the current Winter/Spring 2020 season being the first one for Battlefield V.

How do I earn ESB Points?

ESB Points are awarded to teams based on how they perform in various events hosted by both ESB and its partners. Teams will earn both Rank Points (RP) and Points per Win (PPW) in each eligible event they participate in, combining into their ESB Points total for the current season. Each event, based on the type, prize, and duration, will be classified as either a Gold, Silver, or Bronze event and will award more/less RP and PPW depending on the event type.

  • Rank Points (RP)
    • 1 RP = 1 ESBP
    • Gained through your team’s final placement in events.
  • Points per Win (PPW)
    • 1 PPW = 1 ESBP
    • Gained through each win your team earns in an event.

ESB BFV Council #2 – 5v5 Squad Conquest Ruleset

ESB BFV Council #2 – 5v5 Squad Conquest Ruleset

Information

After three successful 5v5 Squad Conquest Test Cups on all three platforms, hosted with a variety of rules, maps, and restrictions, it’s time to discuss and vote on certain topics officially. This Council will help us create the first version of our official BFV 5v5 Squad Conques ruleset that we will be using in our future events.

The various changes in rules were intended to test the multiple aspects of the game and allow players to create their own opinion on what works and what doesn’t in a competitive environment. The majority of eligible teams played a total of 12 matches, allowing them to gain the required experience to provide meaningful feedback in this ESB Council.

Once the meeting is over, it will take us a few days to finalize and publish the ruleset, which should release late next week.

When is the Council?

The meeting will take place on Sunday, January 19th, 2020, at 3:00 pm EST / 9:00 pm CET and will last approximately 2 hours. Below is a countdown leading to the meeting start.

Location Local time Time zone UTC offset
Paris (France – Île-de-France) Sunday, January 19th, 2020, 21.00.00 CET UTC+1 hour
New York (USA – New York) Sunday, January 19th, 2020, 15.00.00 EST UTC-5 hours
Corresponding UTC (GMT) Sunday, January 19th, 2020, 20.00.00

How does my team attend?

This ESB Council is open to any team that participated (and completed) in at least two out of the three 5v5 Squad Conquest Test Cups we hosted in the past few weeks. Each team will be allowed to send one representative to the Council. As the “Eligible Teams” section shows, 35 teams (16 PS4, 13 PC, and 6 XB1) are currently eligible to attend this upcoming council.

Teams must submit the form via the “Sign-up” section of this article to sign-up. Sign-ups close 5 hours before the meeting’s start. (Teams who don’t sign-up will not be allowed to attend)

Established event organizers that use ESB rules are also welcome to participate in and join the conversation. Please contact @CodeName_Deus via twitter if you are an event organizer that is interested in taking part.

The Council is a voice meeting that will take place through Discord (Download Link Here). You may join the ESB server directly by clicking HERE.

The Road Ahead

The Road Ahead

Information

Community Games, 5v5s and Conquest Small

As you all know, Community Games have finally released! Despite the barebones release, the current features will still allow us to organize and run competitive events properly.

Like every year, we will be hosting test cups for various modes and team sizes, to help us test multiple aspects of the game and the available maps. This whole process will allow us and the teams to form a real opinion on various aspects of the game, before discussing and voting on the new ESB Rulesets in the upcoming councils.

For some teams, this process will feel natural, to others new and possibly tedious; however, we want to make sure everyone attending the Councils (and therefore voting on rules) to be as knowledgeable as possible on the topics we will be presenting and discussing.

5v5 Game Modes

One of the most popular formats is finally making its return. While Domination has been the go-to game mode for this format in both Battlefield 4 and Battlefield 1, for some odd reason, it was designed for 32 players in Battlefield V. This means that playing with 10 players on maps designed for 32, isn’t doable, the maps are just too big.

The next best thing is going to be Squad Conquest, with maps like Provence or Operation Underground proving to be perfect fits for this format. It will be one of the main game modes that we will be testing in the coming weeks for this format.

We are also aware of some interest in testing 5v5 Rush. However, we still haven’t tested it enough to commit here, mainly due to the limited server options at our disposal.

12v12/16v16 Conquest

A classic competitive Battlefield experience that is loved by many is finally coming back. Over the years, there have been many formats played; 12v12s in Battlefield 3, 16v16 in Battlefield 4, and 12v12s in Battlefield 1 (and others).

In Battlefield V, the maps are relatively big, and going anything smaller than 16v16 may not be ideal. It is, however, something that we would like to test out properly at least once before making a final decision together with the community.

ESB Councils

We will be hosting two ESB Councils in the coming month. One for 5v5s and one for 12v12/16v16 Conquest.

In these ESB Councils, we will be officially discussing and voting on any weapon/grenade/gadget bans and any map restrictions that need to be put in place for the 5v5 and Conquest scenes, respectively. Once the voting is over, we will be constructing the first versions of our official 5v5 and Conquest Rulesets, which will be used in our events once the test period is over.

More information on the upcoming Councils will be published as we get closer to the dates.

Schedule & Sign-ups

Note #1: Unless specified, each Cup has a Swiss Style Bracket, meaning each team will have 4-6 matches to play regardless of how many they Win/Lose.
Note #2: Each test cup will be hosted on Battlefy; however, the tournament pages won’t be visible until sign-ups open.
Note #3: Each test cup will be available for all three platforms (PC, PS4, & XB1).

F.A.Q

F.A.Q – Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long does each test cup last?
    • Each test cup is played on the same day; the average duration will likely be 4 hours.
  • What are the requirements to attend the 5v5 ESB Council?
    • Teams that would like to attend the 5v5 Council will be required to play in at least two of the three 5v5 test cups.
  • What are the requirements to attend the 12v12 ESB Council?
    • Teams that would like to attend the 12v12 Council will be required to play in both the Conquest test cups.
  • What regions can participate in the test cups?
    • The test cups are all open to both North American and European teams. If any other region would like to participate, please contact CodeName_Deus#0296 privately through Discord.
  • What about South America?
    • South American cups have been added! Check the schedule!
  • What about 8v8s? Is ESB abandoning them?
    • No, ESB isn’t abandoning 8v8 Squad Conquest. However, it is a mode that has seen a lot of testing done already. There will be an ESB Council to update our 8v8 ruleset in the future, but no news on that for now.
  • What about Frontlines?
    • In its current state, without being able to modify the round time, we believe that Frontlines isn’t playable (30 minute rounds means 1 hour per map). Once the server setting is available (allowing us to create 15-minute rounds), we will be open to testing Frontlines.

Reliving the Zurich Invitational

Reliving the Zurich Invitational

It has been 55 days since the Zurich Invitational took place at eStudios, and now, Community Games (RSP) are finally right around the corner. While this means our online events will pick up again in the near future, let’s look back at our first offline event with some exclusive behind the scene photos powered by DLC Studios.

Four teams were invited to participate in Zurich: Team Vertex, Venom Esports, Prototype Esports, and Buffalo Shine Esports.

Zurich Invitational

Event Bracket:
https://www.toornament.com/en_US/tournaments/2933976541012008960/stages/2933997596719382528/

All four teams entered the event determined, with Team Vertex showing their extensive Battlefield 1 experience from the start, sending Venom Esports to the Loser Bracket right away. Buffalo Shine’s young talent had many sparks while facing Prototype, but this new team couldn’t react consistently enough to Prototype’s plays.

As soon as Venom Esports entered the Loser Bracket, they looked as determined as ever to make it to the Grand Final. Vertex meanwhile enjoyed some rest after dispatching of Prototype with a quick 2-0 in the Winner Bracket Round 2. Venom’s thirst for a rematch versus Team Vertex proved too much for Prototype in the Loser Bracket.

With Team Vertex well-rested, and Venom trying to carry their momentum into the Grand Final, we witnessed two epic Grand Final Rounds. Ultimately, Venom Esports came out on top in the 7th and final game of the event, being crowned your Zurich Invitational Champions!

Presenting the Zurich Invitational

Presenting the Zurich Invitational

Information

ESB, together with GameTurnier, eStudios and, g4g.ch are proud to present the Zurich Invitational! We truly believe that with the right tools in place and with the right investment, Battlefield Esports can have a significant place in the competitive gaming market. Together with our partners, we believe this event is the first step into making our vision a reality.

What is the Zurich Invitational?

The Zurich Invitational is our first event of the 2019/2020 season, a 4 team, double-elimination, 5v5 Domination, invite-only Battlefield 1 LAN event on PlayStation 4.

The winning team will be taking home 1000 € and the Zurich Invitational Trophy, the second-placed team will receive 5 X-Tubs from X-Gamer (with everyone receiving some small prizes and goodies regardless).

There will also be a Scuff Infinity 4PS Pro Controller for the tournament’s MVP (Most Valuable Player).

While we did want to host this event on Battlefield V, the Private Games feature still hasn’t been released. This means that the event will take place on Battlefield 1 for now, with Battlefield V a possibility depending on when Private Games release, and whether we have news in the next few weeks or not.

When and where does it take place?

The event will take place from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm (CEST) on Saturday, October 12th, 2019 at eStudios in Zurich, Switzerland.

Will there be a live-stream?

No, there won’t be a live-stream, there will be two!

The magnificent eSLC duo will be covering the event in German directly from Zurich on the GameTurnier Twitch (twitch.tv/gameturniertv), while the legendary BrettFX and a surprise guest will be covering the event in English on the ESB Twitch (twitch.tv/esbinternationaltv).

Make sure to tune into this epic event!

How can teams participate?

F.A.Q

F.A.Q – Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I use a Mouse and Keyboard to compete?
    • No, as this is a PlayStation 4 event, only the controllers listed in the “Information” section may be used to compete in this event.
  • My team or one of my players live outside of Europe, can we not compete?
    • While we will be prioritizing European based teams for practical reasons, we will be reviewing these situations on a case by case basis due to possible travel visas required. Please contact “CodeName_Deus#0296” via private message on Discord for further information.
  • What about PC and Xbox?
    • This event is a first step for ESB and its partners to help kick off Battlefield Esports properly. Our goal will always be to host events on all platforms, and we hope to be able to replicate this kind of event in the future.
      • Please note: The more active a platform is in our online events, the easier creating events such as these ones is.
