Looking Ahead: A 2025 Roadmap

Hey everyone! With 2042’s life cycle coming to an end, we are mainly working behind the scenes to prepare for the next entry in the Battlefield franchise.

However, we wanted to share news of our last planned events for this game, including a possible second ESB League season for 2042 and the launch of Season 0 of our new event series (with Season 1 launching with the next Battlefield game).

One last 2042 competitive event: ESB League Season 2 or something else?

Unfortunately, our most popular event series, ESB League, only had one short season on 2042. For those who are new, ESB League is a double round-robin event series we have regularly hosted since Battlefield 4. In “peak” years, we had 2-3 seasons happen yearly, with 15 seasons already in the books.

Now, going back to 2042, we would love to host one final 4v4 Flashpoint and/or Squad Obliteration season if there are 6-8 teams interested in and committed to it. If it happens, it will have detailed player stats, live streams, and a solid amount of social promotion to help promote the scene as much as possible ahead of the next game.

However, because this is a longer event format that teams may not want to commit to with the current state of the game, we are also open to hosting a less commitment-heavy format, such as a One Day Cup (Single-Double Elim or even Swiss), to give 2042 one last sweaty sendoff.

If you and your team are interested in participating in one last 2042 event, please don’t hesitate to let us know! If there’s enough interest, we’ll make something happen for the community. Otherwise, we’ll keep focusing on the next game and our new event series mentioned below.

We have created a thread on Discord with a poll you can vote on and a place to discuss your ideas and feedback on what is mentioned above.

A Large (Scale) Event Series

We briefly mentioned last year that we have been working on a new event series, tailored to be a stepping stone into organized and competitive play for new players while still providing an enjoyable experience for our veteran players.

We believe that for the competitive ecosystem to grow organically and hopefully thrive in the future, there needs to be an easy and accessible way for new players to get into organized play and meet like-minded players (and even make a name for themselves). ………….

Last year, we wanted to test this new format, but we opted to delay it and keep working on it before the next Battlefield game.

Now, we feel ready to launch this series’s beta season (Season 0).

This will be an important test to help us perfect the format with your help, and iron out any issues before we launch a much bigger event with the new Battlefield game.

We will say that this will be a bit different from what we usually do, yet we feel that it will be a great introduction to organized play for players in the future.

We also miss seeing and playing in larger competitive modes from past Battlefield games. Whether you enjoyed 8v8s, 12v12s, or even 15v15s, having infantry and vehicles work together in a competitive setting felt like how Battlefield was meant to be played and was an equally important stepping stone for many who went on to play and watch smaller infantry-focused modes.

While this all feels very vague for now, we can already confirm two things:

  1. It will be large scale: 20v20+
  2. We will be launching sign-ups and detailed information at the beginning of May.

Vehicle player feedback wanted!

Competitive vehicle balance is a tale as old as Battlefield itself. As we venture into larger-scale modes in 2042, we need feedback from experienced 2042 vehicle players.

So if any experienced tankers and/or pilots are interested in providing feedback on their 2042 experiences, please join the dedicated thread on our Discord HERE.

Rules & Experience Code Updates

Our ESB Flashpoint and ESB Squad Obliteration rulesets are regularly updated. This coming week, an update will be released to temporarily ban the AN-94 until it leaves the War Machine event pass.

After some community feedback, next week, we will update our 4v4 Rush ruleset (now outdated) and update these experience codes so the community can use them.

As always, we want to hear your feedback, so if there are other game modes you’d like to see experience codes for (Squad Frontlines anyone), don’t hesitate to let us know through our Discord’s #suggestion-box channel.
