Squad Obliteration Update & Next Steps

Despite this past month’s radio silence, the team has continued its hard work on multiple projects. One we are ready to share is the release of Squad Obliteration v0.9, as we work toward a 1.0 release in the next couple of weeks. Update v0.9 brings a lot of quality of life improvements to the mode, together with 5 new maps that you can discover below. We also have another handful of maps releasing over the next week, bringing the total to 10+ maps. Our goal is to have at least 7 solid maps for the launch of ESB League’s first Battlefield 6 season, and teams will be able to vote for their favorite ones.

Regarding the return of ESB League, we will make an announcement this month as soon as we finalize a few things. We want to make sure this first season showcases the competitive community the right way, and we can’t wait to show you what we have been working on.

Teams have also been wondering about an update regarding 12v12 Conquest Small, and we can confirm that this update will be released soon as we ramp up our preparations for Season 1.

Below are the map overviews for the 5 new maps available with today’s Squad Obliteration update. There’s been a lot of exploration and testing of ideas with these new maps, and not everything will be perfect. Some ideas will work, others will need refinement, and others may need to be discarded, just like in any creative process. Some MCOMs may need to be moved, as do some spawns and bomb locations. Some areas will need more cover, and some of the cover we added may need to be removed. Perfecting these behind closed doors with internal testing would take too much time, so the easiest way is to put them out in the wild and gather feedback from experienced teams and players so we can perfect them together.

Once you play them, please don’t forget to provide feedback on our Discord (HERE) so we can make this work together.

We have also updated the ruleset, notably the weapon bans, thanks to up-to-date weapon data from sym.gg. You can view the ruleset HERE. We will be hosting a 4v4 Squad Obliteration test cup this Sunday, April 12th, 2026, to allow teams to test the new maps and rules in a more competitive environment. Teams that complete all their matches will be invited to vote in the upcoming ESB Council that will determine the final 4v4 Squad Obliteration ruleset for Season 1.

You will be able to sign up on Battlefy for either the North American or European test cups starting tomorrow:

Siege of Cairo Short – zus7t

The existence of Cairo Short implies the existence of Cairo Long, which is true. Cairo Long releases soon and features a different map layout. We look forward to seeing which version is popular (maybe both?).

Iberian Offensive – us7w

We initially had a smaller version of this map, but it felt too small. If this feels too spread out, we can always reduce the playable area further and possibly remove the area of the map where C and F are.

Area 22B – zus87

We initially wanted to use a bigger playable area, but it was clear that it would have made the map too wide to play and reduced the possible HQ locations for both teams. This should be a good compromise.

Defense Nexus – zus89

This is a very narrow map, but with objectives spread across each floor, the playable area is actually much bigger.

The map overview here is all over the place simply because each objective and spawn is on a different level, so representing this on a 2D image doesn’t do it justice.

Redline Storage – zus8b

This map is very wide and will likely be better suited for an 8v8 Obliteration format than the current 4v4 setup, but we think it’s still worth trying out for 4v4. If there is interest, we can make an 8v8 experience code available for teams to try as well.

All rooftop access was removed from the AB and DE buildings to improve the map’s gameplay. Extra cover was also added on the main road to help the rotation from the bomb site to the AB and DE objectives, but it may not be enough.

Manhattan Bridge – zqx3x

The first map we released on February 1st now has its own overview, so we figured we’d share it here as well. All map overviews are available directly on the ruleset page, Section 6.0, for easy future reference. You will also find an experience code with all maps included on the ruleset page.
